When you press Print Screen it copies a snapshot of your entire screen to the Clipboard, Control-Print Screen copies a snapshot of the active window.

If you hold down alt and then press print screen this will only copy the front window you have open, so if you need screen shots of only the window ur working in alt+print screen will do it

Print does do something, when you press it it captures the current screen image, then all you have to do is paste into software which can display images, stuff like paint, photoshop, word etc will all work fine.

open paint or something then paste it in. It puts thescreen image in the clipboard, just like copying a picture or text.
