http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=308121
was just reading the thread, which is very helpful by the way , however im an amateur at it but really want to give it a go, have a boot to flush and spray, and also a bumper. so i know its going to be hard work but if i fail il then just get it done pro.
can everything be bought from halfords lol? if so, in order for me to spray a boot, spoiler and a front bumper what exactly would i need to buy? ie, what rgades of sand paper? whats the best spray to go for?laquer?spirit wipes?primer? and also how much of each item would i need and if you know, how much is it liekly to cost me?
i know im asking a lot here but id be very grateful for your help and its important i know how much i need and what i need
thanks a lot
and also any spraying technique tips?

Tbh i think if you want to spray a boot lid/bumper you're going to need a compressor to get a decent result on something that size. You're looknig at around the £100 mark for a suitable one, probably a little more.
I would recomend practising on something smaller first using cans (a boot lock surround or something similar size would be an ideal first project). I tend to use a can of primer, can of paint and can of lacquer for something like this as well as 40 and 1200 grade papers IIRC

i cant afford a compressor at the mo, as i said though if the finish is crap il just get it sprayed professionally. i saw a thread on here the other day were a guy sprayed his red boot himself with no compressor, looked an awesome finish
and ye il practice on the boot lock surround as i dont need that anyway.
have you any idea how much a can of primer is and which one to go for?and same with the laquer.
cheers

you can get primer from halfrauds mate, think its about £5.99 for a 500ml can, they've got high build primer which you'll definatly need and the coloured primers depending what colour you're spraying your bootlid

im not doing it up to sell so that isnt an issue. i am without a job and am wanting something to do to use time up until i get myself a job, so i thought this would be a good idea and if worse comes to worse itl look shoot and then il pay a sprayer. only thing il loose is time doing it
and as said, iv seen some decent work done with cans so you never know, it may turn out good

welcome to corssport jimbobz. it can be achieved but as the lads have said, its worth trying something like a boot lock 1st time around as it is very hard to get a pro job with spray cans. by no means give it ago if you are prepared to pay a pro if it goes pete tong.

i dont mean to offend you mate, nor sound like a twat, but why dont you spend ur time getting a job, then just pay for a pro? cuz if you havnt sprayed anything yourself before, i dont think you will get the desired finish. It aint gonna be too cheap either, you'll need quite a few cans and a few sanding blocks.
edit: welcome btw lol

That cost me about £30 - 40 all in.
Basically went with the attitude that if I cocked up I'd put it in the bodyshop (which was the original plan)
