the xe broke again today. not 100% sure whats up with it atm but i think its a relay thats causing the problems.
car drives but after a few minutes the ecu light will come on and it will run on 2 cylinders with lots of blue smoke, plant your foot to the floor and then it will sort it self out. then it'll will do it all again.
also when you turn off the engine the relay will start buzzin really loud. when you unplug the relay the car will no longer start and the ecu light doesnt come on with the ignition. plug it back in and the car will start.
could this be my problem? im going to order a new relay on tuesdays as it shouldnt be buzzing the way it is anyways.
cheers
james

sure the smoke isnt grey rather than blue?
the fuel pump relay is a possible cause as this also affects the coil and distributor.

reason i asked about the smoke colour was because if it was grey then if the relay was faulty and caused a cylinder not to spark then could be unbunt fuel (running rich)

When i had my XE, the engine just used to cut out, turned out to be the fuel pump relay. It never smoked, the engine just died.....leave it 15mins and it ran fine again.
There is a fuel pump relay mod you can do which involves adding a resistor or something to it, cures the problem.

I believe that the same resistor can also be used in conjunction to gain an extra 50bhp too....according to Ebay

Its not that type of resistor to do that job! Don't worry!

I know when i had a load of problems with my valver, i changed the AFM, CTS and the cranks shaft sensor.
It was smoking like hell, but i cant remember which one of the above it was.

Hadnt you better read the codes off the ECU before rebuilding it?

i think ive got it down to the ecu wiring now as when you twist the ecu wiring the buzzing will stop. next step is to work out which wire it is!

you mean the relay that feeds into the main loom, probably located near your battery? that relay i think is a controller for the negative trigger for the injectors-if u disconnect it i think they go open circuit and either dont inject or overfuel?

the relay is in the scuttle panel. part number GM90378651. if u disconnect the relay then the ecu light wont light up at all and the car wont start. it will only turn over
