Go to your Control Panel, click on Windows Firewall, then turn it off. BE WARNED THOUGH.
If you havent got any other form of protection on your PC, its like leaving your front door open.
Another thing you can do is just give permision to the needed applications access to the net via the firewall options.
Have you just recently installed SP2? Or was it all working fine before with SP2?

Another thing you can do is to go to Network Connections and tell us how many connections your seeing? Also how your connected to the internet? Via a USB modem, router or Ethernet Modem.

open Dos and use the netstat command see what connections youve got if you think theres issues with spyware and stuff.
Could just be you need to clear your temp files and cookies out , also may sure proxies are disabled and restore IE defaults.
Can you Ping/trace to the IP's of the site you cant browse to?

to remove xp firewall do this
Click Start, Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click the desired connection, Properties, Advanced tab, Under Internet Connection Firewall, uncheck or check the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.

also check system resources in my computer, right click on it then select properties and if u click on a tab on there (not sure which one) it will come up with system resources in use with a %, if above 80% or near that, try disableing some programs from msconfig that you do not use when starting up. then restart your machine and try again
