is it possible to relocate the loop by welding it somewhere else? or will it not be safe enough? and does it need one for MOT?

Yes, but what happens when you break down in a bad area and cant get towed home?

Your car will look worse once a few neds have had their fun, than having kept the towing eye and lived with it.

ive got a large bit of threaded bar with a loop on the end, i then welded then nut for this onto a chasis rail at the front of the car! if i need towing i take the mesh out and screw the threaded bar into the nut, or i can cut a small hole in the mesh for it to go through! much better idea!!

Keep it on in my opinion. I was going to have mine cut off and relocated but luckily i didnt. A few months later the car was in a crash and needed towing
