JKGSI, there is a litre between max & min marks normally

Stephen, those spark plugs look like a result of over-rich fuel mixture. Are the electrodes damaged at all??

touch the electrode ends, is it an oily or sooty substance? If its oily, its oil from worn bores or piston rings, valve guides, or you could have topped up with too much oil.
