my mate bought a 2400 directed audio amp and 2 12" ballistic audio subs a few months back, but because he cant drive and isnt aloud to do anything to the car yet as its still his mums, he hadnt had a chance to use them. Yesterday he decided hed chuck them in my car just to hear what it sounded like (he wanted to see if he needed another amp or not).
It sounded really good with just the one sub so he went for a drive, but it cut out after about 10 mins and he couldnt get it to work again. He bought them from r-tec, which is where we were driving to any way so we got them to have a look at it and see if they could tell us what had happened. They said we'd blown the sub and they couldnt do anything because even tho this is the first time wed used them, we had bougth them 3/4 months ago.
Can someone tell me how the fuck we blew a sub as it wasnt that loud, and if we hook the other sub up to the system if it will do the same.
cheers

OK, firstly although R-Tec are nice lads they know fuk all about ICE
is there any sound comming out?? If there isn't then no you haven't blown the sub. Cos if is had blown they would be some noice (very nasty at that) comming out.
Its more likely that the amp isn't getting signal anymore, due to dodgy wires.. Or a fuse has gone, maybe the front fuse?? Your bestest bet is to go down to your nearest ICE shop and ask very nicely for them to test the sub, amp etc. Then you will know for sure if it has blown
Mine blew, and a horrible noice like a barking dog came out..
Give it a go

I understand 'Blown' to mean the voice coil has burnt out. Near or as close to impossible with normal speakers but with subwoofers close enough. In this case there will be no sound, unless its a dual voice coil sub. Simply connect a battery to the speaker connections, and if the cone moves, its still working....

there was absolutly no sound coming out. we no the amp works and everything because we hooked it up to the 6x9s for bit to see if this was the problem.
I think somehow the wires have disconnected within the speaker so its just not doing a thing

You totally sure you had the amp set up with the speaker correctly?
