I'm looking at what subs to get for my boot install, and have been looking at the Maystar QXV-12

nah forget em mate, i would spend the extra 10 quid and get a audiobahn - which is 12inches of 550wRMS sub 
Although the amp gonna be costly thing, for something decent you will be lookign around the 300quid+ mark for a monoblock. Obviously if you get a 2channel jobby and bridge it, it would be cheaper but less effective
