It did get fixed in the end by Vauxhall.
It was the speed sensor in the speedometer clock that had broken and could not be fixed. This cause the ecu to read strange thus causing the car to cut out.
Decided to keep my car now and spend a few hundred quid on it.

About £150 for the speedometer. The sensor is inside it and can't be seperated so a new one was needed.

When i had my Sport, i had a very similar problem to you - my engine would just randomly die, along with the engine management light coming on. Then one day my speedo stopped working. I took it down to Vauxhall, and they told me that some part of the ECU is hooked upto the speedo cable, and stops the engine stalling when pulling up at traffic lights etc. Anyway, i had the speedo cable changed and my speedo worked, and my engine has never died since...
