Is it not more complicated than that? After all, you do have to multiply it etc etc. If it was that simple why the extra number?

1) Key in the first three digits of your phone number into a calculator.
(do not use your area code number)
2) Multiply by 80
3) Add one
4) Multiply by 250
5) Plus last three digits of your pnone number
6) Plus last three digits of your phone number again
7) Minus 250
Then divide by 2
Is that your number?
that should work

No mystery here. The net effect of these instructions is to multiply your first three digits by 10000 - ie move them 4 places to the left of the decimal point. EG 382 becomes 3820000. you then add the last three digits twice and dived by two - ie. you add the last three digits once. Because they're added onto a number containing zeros in the last 4 digits, you simply add the last 3 numbers of your phone number onto the first three digits to give you the same six digits of your number (except now there's likely to be a 0 in the middle.
