Ive had a problem with my Corsa B 1.2 8v for a while...
When its damp/wet or when I drive through standing water I get two things happen IF the revs are increasing (you can avoid it by accelerating ridiculously slowly and getting through up the gears quickly). Normally the engine management light comes on first, followed by the car kind of kanagrooing. Sometimes the kangarooing is followed by the ecu light.
The kangarooing feels like its misfiring and not running on all cylinders. If im lucky enough to be going downhill I can put it into neutral and the light goes off and it goes back to normal.
So... what I've done is...
1) Replace the leads. This didn't help.
2) Put a bag round the ignition module and the DIS pack to keep them dry. This didn't help.
3) Bought and fitted new DIS pack. This helped a lot and the problem happens a lot less.
However, when its pissing it down (or when I'm accelerating quite quick and the revs are high) it still happens. But what I've noticed is that now when I put it into neutral (and roll down the hill) so that the light goes out the battery light is dimly illuminated. And I've also noticed that the problem occurs more so when the fan belt is slipping and screeching.
I'm thinking its all linked together but was wondering if anyone could tell me what to do next. Obviously tightening/replacing the belt is one thing - could anyone tell me how to do that?
Thanks in anticipation

If your engine management light came on then read the code off it and see what the problem is.
Also, dont know if your engine has one but when my EGR valve gets clogged up it used to cause my engine to kangaroo etc

8v engine = no egr valve
dis pack there is dizzy cap, rotor arm, and coil pack also known as dis pack
i think the engine light has to be on for 20 or 30 seconds for it to log a fault

At which end? Alternator end or the one at the bottom of the engine? Ive bought a new belt goes because the other one looks pretty ropey so I how do I replace it?
Ive bought a Haynes manual and the pictures bear no resemblance to my car (and yes, its the right manual for the car!). The only thing is the wrenches I have are quite fat and I cant get one in between the end of the alternator and the body work (wheel arch) behind the air filter assembly so I cant work out what tightening or loosening the bolt on that pulley does.

buy some spanners open and ring ones
you undo the two mounting bolts and swing it overtake belt off fit new belt and swing back and tighten up if you feel you cant do it then get a mate who knows or a garage wont charge more than 1 hour labour to fit and adjust it max £30 for it but the alternator could be ill? how many miles has it done?

48000 miles.
I think I tried that. The two bolts clamp the top of the alternator to a bar thats got a long hole in the middle. Presumably so you can swing the alternator toward the front of the car? But theres also another bolt on the top and two on the bottom? Do I undo those as well? I cant see how it pivots if not. Or didnt I pull hard enough after loosening the other two?
Im really grateful for your help!
