everytime i shut down my pc or laptop i get a message sayin "ending - explorer.exe" and i have to press end task before it will shut down. Laptop is running XP and PC is Win2k. Anyone know what it is or the cure?

You probably have one same application on both PC's that stops explorer shutting down tidy or something

could be antivirus not closing fully so its hanging explorer, could be IE, or messenger, there are quite a few processes which can cause explorer to hang

when you click end task, does it come up with a box sayin explorer.exe has caused an error & must be closed, with a button to show you detailed information? if so click it & make a copy of what it said

thats the one. the laptop only has office 2k autoroute and publisher 97 on. my grandads pc with win 2k does it also.
