dont suppose you have bit torrent running, or are on a netowrk with anyone who might have it running? That uses so much bandwidth its unbelieveable! www.pcpitstop.com have a bandwidth checker which also measures ping times and packet loss - it will tell you if there is a problem with your line.

Depends really, I use a great bit torrent application called ABC which allows me to change the number of downloads/uploads/upload speed/download location using a very nice graphical interface, perfect for downloading all them freeware programs.

Direction Actual Speed True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 559 Kbps (69.9 KB/sec) 603 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 122 Kbps (15.3 KB/sec) 131 Kbps (inc. overheads)

559kbps downstream (out of 600kbps max), 122kbps upstream (out of 128kbps max).

That's not a bad speed, given that contention will be taking effect at this time of day.

Try changing your DNS server and see if it helps. Go to Control panel, networking (or netowrk and dial up connections) right click on local area network, go to properties on Internet Protocol TCP/IP and enter these numbers under "use the following DNS servers"

213.120.62.99
213.120.52.100

They are the BT ones, but are publically accessable. Might help you see if its a DNS problem. If it doesnt help, then to fix it do the above, but select "obtain DNS servers automatically" instead of providing your own.
