the car does need a new water pump so i was told,
the rad in it is OK its from a Corsa Gsi,
the car was running for about 30 seconds with no water
i left it twelve hours (as i towed it home) then put water in it
it tock about 3.5 to 4 litres.....
and went to start it but it will tick over but not fire in to life
the cams and that are all moving but not firing in to life....
there is no oil or water mixed in the engine as the oil cap and inside is clean also the oil on the sump looks good....
any advice would be great

the head gasket could of gone between a water gallery & the bore, so oil wont be contaminated.
get the head skimmed & a new headgasget on

even if the head gasket was gone, or oil in the water it would still fire up.
Are all your HT leads connected, are your plugs ok? yadda yadda

Once you get the basic diagnosis stuff out the way, do a compression test.
That'll shed at least a bit of light on the state of head gasket / rings / piston failure / world war 3 / whats for tea.
The cams are moving because the starter motor is turning the engine over.
You might not be getting a fuel feed if the electrical side is ok.

think iam getting a fuel feed as i can hear the pump goimg when i put ignition on and can smell petrol when trying to start it........ the smell was quite heavy....

the engine will be flooded, take the plugs out dry them off leave the fuel to evaporate then try and start it

check there is fuel at the injectors by pushin in the bleed nipple on the fuel rail

was on the fone to well known garage in Lanarkshire he was asying that there was a temp switch(or something like that) and if the thing aint got water , trying to start ends up fludding the spark plugs the reason it wouldnt fire up and the heavy smell of petrol ... got told to take plugs out and dry them and try again..........anyone heared of this problem.......

i have heard of other cars having this it's like a safety cut off that stops you from cooking your engine.not sure if your engine has one or not though.but it's worth trying what the garage has said

got it running just had to take spark plugs out just had to dry them off
