i know that this is a silly question, but wat does a 'relay' actually do??

it lets you switch a source on and off using a small current, basically. I have one that is used to turn the split charge sytem on and off. Instead of having large current flowing through the switch, it runs into and out of the relay, which is turned on and off by a smaller current.
