expanding foam is'nt really an adhesive, i use it to fill in air gaps between parts. When i smoothed me boot in i welded the plate on and then used the expanding foam to fill in the gap between the new plate and recess.
Hope this helps

For the boot question, i used tiger seal to bond the skin on and used expanding foam between the gaps like paddy said just to give some support. As for the install im not sure but if u ask in ice section someone will know.
