I really can't do maths and at uni we have to do a whole module on it . Can anyone recomend a good GCSE Maths book i can buy. It's gotta be the Advanced stuff. I think i should start with the GCSE stuff and then go onto A level stuff a bit later.
I never did any of this stuff at school although i did manage a C in matchs . I did some stuff on my GNVQ but again i have probs there too.

I use quite a bit of maths that I learnt at school everyday in work.
Pythagoras theorum, 3/4/5 for setting things square, circle geometry when working with curves/arcs etc, plus obvious addition, working out areas etc.
Maybe all those years weren't wasted after all!

They don't do a book or recomend a book for this module. It's A level standard maths plus a bit of other stuff they have thrown in just for fun. I can do it but it took me an hour to cover 45% of the questions that should take 45 mins to complete tops.
Will look in Smiths tomorrow.

GCSE maths was pish, but A-level.....oh my god! was alright at first, then we got into Quadratic equations, differentiation, Binomials and Logarithms...it was all bollocks! still i got a C but its was pointless cos i will never use any of it ever again and if someone asked me a question on it now i wouldnt have a clue!

exactly, if you struggle with GSCE levels maths, u have no chance in hell with Alevel maths.
GCSE maths is a joke imo, micky mouse stuff, A* is easy if u put the time into it.
I only managed to get the gist of Alevel maths, but enjoyed learning it. U need to learn by example, and do loads of questions. I managed to scrape a B for pure maths + descrete.
Is there any chance of defering the module? Is it compulsary?
I suggest u have a look at the following books:
(Heineman or something )
Pure Mathmatics 1 (P1)
Pure Mathmatics 2 (P2)

Very true, there is a massive step from GCSE to A-level.
I did it for about 6months and was doing pretty good but I got pissed off with the whole college life so jacked it in and got a trade! No regrets.
Cant remember much I did at A-level though, shows how much it applies to real life compared to GCSE.

The thing is right is that my mate says A Level Maths was easy compared to GCSE and i found GCSE Maths solid but this stuff i can do but it takes ages. Just after see what haps anyway, might end up leaving if they bring in these topup fees anyway.
