Rit today ive got the handle, wiper arm and boot lock surround, and also primed in filler primer and then gray plastic primer.
hung them up to dry, want some advise on next step when i go back to it in the morning, do i prim again, rub down, clean with what!

erm well if you did that then i suggest you start again cos the plastic primer has to go on first. it will flake off very quickly otherwise.

well thats i was told to do because the filler primer i have is yellow, and the paint i have needs grey primer.

well he told you wrong, my brother works in a bodyshop and i do all my own bodywork, ie full respray.
the plastic primer bonds with the plastic, the other primer wont. anyway what plastic primer you using? grey? well that is filler primer, proper plastic primer you should be using is clear, you then use the yellow stuff over the top, but dont go bk through to the plastic. it doesnt matter what colour primer you use. i dont think this combat projex has a clue about painting, i wouldnt listen to him again.

i used ordinary primer on my boot lock surround on my old corsa and that started flakin after about six months.....use plastic primer

rite, what i do was sand down and get rid of the bobbles.
sprayed plastic filler primer to level it out more, then after 24h, sprayed my grey plastic primer on the top.

sand down, then use plastic primer (if its clear then you need filler primer over the top, if its grey then it is plastic filler primer and there is no need for another primer) then paint it
as for the 24 hours, no. you can spray as soon as its touch dry, even for the top coat.

so what do i do when ive got it to primer?
clean it? then rub down with wet and dry? which grade

ok this is how i would do it:
sand the plastic with something like p120
then use a clear plastic primer
then spray on a few coats of hibuild primer
then go over this with p800
then spray on top coat, then laquer if neccessary
then go over the whole lot with p1500
then use a cutting paste like g10
then polish it.

i agree with kris on everything except the sanding with 120 grit at the begining.i just use a scotchpad or summing to key the surface,degrease it,plastic adhesive(clear primer) then give it a few coats of high build primer.if it doesnt cover after a few coats then let it dry,flat it down abit with 600wet then give it another coat or 2 till it covers the texture.flat that down with 600-800wet then base coat then laquer if its a metallic.

wayne, you even tried not sanding down plastic first? its best to do that cos scotch brite doesnt get into the little gaps.
would u use grey or red scotchbrite for existing paint work? ie when ive finnshed smoothing my boot cos im not sanding the whole thing bk to the metal.

i dont ever sand plastic down fully,think its just making hard work for yourself.theres no need to flat it all down by hand,the primer does that for you.after all primer is easier to flat down then plastic.
grey scotchpads should work on original paint mate,thats what the bodyshop uses.

oh i dont sand it down fully, just a bit to take some of the lumps off.

just lightly key the paint with the scotchpad by itself mate,just untill the paints dull.

grey scotch with the liquid or the powder with water until paint goes matt.
