I can't see any re3ason why they wouldnt let you change the registration plate if thats what you mean. any HPi checks will check the history on previous plates that car has had anyway, so will still show up as being an insurance loss at some point.

Different to being a q plate, as there given to cars where the original age of the car is indeterminable.

v car should keep its original reg plate as its only the history of why its gone on a V log. As said, Q cars are different as the year of manufacture is unknown or is a kit car

What does a V car mean I know it's an insurance thing (and puts your premium up loads) but is it a classification like because the car was stolen recovered or previously scrap/bent ?

v car means its been a total write off.
andy are you on about that corsa in auto trader. the 2ltr jobbie?
just cause the car is known as a v car dosent mean it is on a v plate.

Yup, theres a Class, A, B, C and D

D is stolen/recovered
C is mainly panel damage
B and A are pretty bad usually structural, possible reshell needed.

As to putting the premium up, I can't see a reason why?

Ah right, i've seen cars for sale with 'cat b' damage etc, so v-car just means it could be one of the four categories?

As for insurance i've just read that it goes up, similar to import etc might not make any difference if it's got a c230let in anyway
