ring them up and tell them you are interested in buying an astra gsi/whatever blah blah, bullshit them untill you get to the point of wanting a test drive. AFAIK they will come out with you always?
Just dont come off as a pikey is a good start ;p

Is it hard to get out of buying it, as I would find it hard to pull an 'unimpressed look' if I was testing a astra gsi
Or do people just say, yeah I got a few others to test and i'll be in touch...?

It has a lot to do with what you wear. I've been in for parts for the Corsa in a suit and been seen straight away by a sales chap.
I went to buy the Astra in a tracksuit and cap and had to basically ask could I buy one please.
Helps if you're on your own as well, or just two of you. Any more and you're unlikely to go out in anything.
