Out of these, whats the 1 to go for?

Calibra 2.0 16v - Has Leather + Alloys.
Astra GTE - Older and hard to find a good 1.
205 GTi - minted 1(looks like its really been looked after) - High miles tho!

Older yes, hard to find a good one, not if you look about and try places like Mig etc. Lots of cheap ones to be had from auctions (£200-£400). PLenty of dosh for insurance and any other small bits u want to do to it.

I think calibra's best idea, most reliable - big comfy car. I dont plan to do anything to it as I will have another toy to play with sitting in my garage

Totally not true, a guy I know that owns 1 payed 2.5k for it and has spent £4k in last 5 months on it, mostly on things breaking This is what has put me off it.

He has also opted for a locked Transfer box as these are more reliable, I dont want the hassle assosiated with them and dont see the point in changing one to FWD like he has

LET are a different story, old turbo engines are all goign wrong these days. Turbos dont last as well as NA cars. They do go on ok, but most old turbos have been ragged about.

Transfer box is commen on the turbos for breaking. Not unless u find a MINT car and the owner has had it properly serviced at vaux (Transfer kits also need to be serviced at about 50,000 upwards, if there not serviced, or maintained, they break, such as many have).

F28 gearboxes are a nightmare, and expensive to repair. Apart from the head i didnt think LETs were unreliable at all if looked after.

16v callies are alright.
some are getting on a bit now.

i picked one up at christmas for not a lot of money.
goes well, but it's a bit tatty, has a few probs etc.
cruises fast if you wanna eat motorway miles up. do 130 no probs, but you'll also be guzzling fuel pretty hard at those speeds.

i paid 850 for a 90 h plate, fsh, 11months mot, toad cat1.
bad points are that it has minced laquer on an arch, rust coming through on rear arch tops, a chronic water leak inside, a couple of the engine sensors needed replacing, and a lower arm bush is goosed.
nothing too expensive though.
just wanted something cheap/quick and reliable for a year, then i'll use the engine for a corsa and split the rest for parts.
