how would i know if my battery is knackered ?? car would not start this morning until a charged it up, ne ideas ??

i put the charger on it this morning and it was low then charged up and started

Yup, you need a voltmeter. Measure the battery when the engine is on. It should be anywhere between 13.8 - 14.4 volts. At rest (after an hour or so with the engine NOT running) the battery should read anything above 12 volts.
If this isnt the case then you can wright the battery off as the plates inside will have warped, busting some of the cells.
To be honest if the battery was just flat for no reason (no drains on it i.e lights etc) then it will be nackered.
