Isn't that totally back to front? Isn't black to - and red/yellow to +?

mate, if the wiring harness isnt working for you, then wire up the speaers, remote lead, light wire etc, then run you own cables from the battery Make sure the black goes to the negative (-) and the red goes to the positive (+) on the battery And the yellow can either get connected up to the ignition, or to a live feed, its up to you

well I've re-wired loaaaads of head units and tbh ther is some scary stuff...I make sure on whats what first by testing because black is sometimes live or sometimes earth, along with many other random colours. so the safest way is to test it all properly

sounds like the brown wire is your permanent live mate (+12V constant)
and the red is prob your accessory live (+12V ignition)
have to rig up your own earth by the sounds of it!
but like a couple of the guys have already said on here....you cant beat gettin out ur multimeter and checkin whats what
