after receiving advice here -
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=129400
i did a compression test today,
cyl 1 - 14 bar
cyl 2 - 11.5 bar
cyl 3 - 0.5 bar
cly 4 - 0 bar
put some oil in 3 & 4 and got same results so that means the head gasket is shot between those cylinders yes?
The other thing is cyl 1, why is it so high? according to Haynes manual its supposed to be around 10-11 bar
Thanks

could also be valves but i did read you were getting oil in there so maybe not. take head off and see you will have to at some point anyway

Whatever it is you have to take the head off anyway. That'll tell you whats wrong. Normally on mine it's 16 bent valves and pistons with holes in

You didn't just over-crank it when doing cylinder 1 or something?

oil in the cylinder to repair compression means your piston rings are probably shot to buggery

could not read lol. maybe you got a big hole. I don;t think you'd have complete loss of compresison with a head gasket blowing. maybe valve problem

I reckon it valves. Its unlikely to be the gasket as the readings would be higher

I had a gasket go between no. 3&4 cyl on my corsa, there was no compression at all on those two. but the hole in the gasket between the cylinders was about an inch big!

if its only just gone i wouldnt bother
just make sure the head faces are clean and re-fit with new gasket

just run a feeler blade over the head to check its nice and true or the straight edge of a metal ruler, and just look for and warping, like he said you should be ok unless the gasses rushing between cylinders have damaged the head
