Well.... it does depend on how much of a rhythm you have, its like asking someone how long it take you to walk etc
Everyone is different
It took me quite a while to do and wanted to give up but hard work and dedication got me there in the end... i can now mix anything and in time

about 4 weeks to get the basics. try using 2 copies of the same record. and it helps if you know how music works, ie 4 beats in a bar etc. depends on the music tho, trance is pretty easy but hardcore is quite difficult cos its so quick.

trance is harder cos you get random pitch changes, spose if you know the tune well you should be ok

huh? if there isnt any tempo changes and its all stays in the same time signature, then whats the problem? ive yet to hear a trance track that changes its temp, most of them just go from 4/4 to 2/4, thus being half as fast, but still in time
Only thing i can think that will be hard is hip hop and rnb, like greg said, since songs arnt kept to the 4/4 standard and they use lots of offbeat stuff, which 1 makes it hard whilst beat matching and 2 can cause the the final mixed tracks to sound pants (unless you have a pair of well matched songs, then it can work obviously ).
Although, does anyone do any mixing with acapellas? how do you go about getting the tempo of the acapella?
edit: i would also recommend munch that you look into music theory mate. Just the basics about time sigs etc

another thing munchie, dont use visual ads, it will make you more reliant on the bmp meter and you will be screwed without one Plus there not all that accurate

Took me about 2 hours! as soon as you can find the first beat in the bar on the first of a 8 bar loop its easy.
I did take drumming lessons for about 6 years before so had good rhythm. nothing really much to it (especially with all your scouse mixed 4/4 rhythms munchman!)

To be honest it just seems to come quite naturally. Tho I have been DJ'ing around 5 years now. DJ Hard house, Hardcore, DnB, Gabba (try mixing this.. haha), Hard trance. Anything commercial is absolute pish to mix / beat match.
Takes diff ppl diff amounts of time to learn to beat match, like someone already said it depends on ur natural rhythm as to how quickly you can learn.. just stick at it and practise
