When driving it would come on for about 5 seconds then go out, maybe one every 30mins.
once i turned off the engine then started and it cut out straight away, only happened once tho, i chucked in some STP fuel treatment see if that does anything.
oh before u say i have the idle control valve replaced about 3 months ago, and something else lol

If the paper clip don't work then the halfords kit also won't work.
It just connects the two pins but its got a fancy switch, led that flashes the same as the bulb and a cod list.

ahh, the infamous engine management light.
my 2001 sxi has been playing up for a couple of weeks, light came on as i was going onto motorway two weeks ago, fuel warning light had also just come on but i would have been able to get to garage.
stopped on hard shoulder, got recovered to work, sent the car to vx dealer, they told me that it was triggered by the fuel being too low.
then it came on again last wednesday, was cruising at 70mph on motorway, i pulled off into layby, turned off engine, started it back up but light was on, took it back to vx dealer today, they now saying ecu is fubar'd and needs replacing £570.
not impressed.
sorry to bore, had to get that off my chest
