I have a Corsa GSi, & it makes a tapping noise at bout 2,500rpm....
It sounds like its coming from the top end but I took it to the local Vauxhall dealer (Twells Of Billinghay) & they say that it is the plastic inlet manifold rattlin inside the engine bay!..... They had a bloke in & changed his engine four times & all of them had the SAME noise, he even came to my house to see if my engine made the noise, which it does!
Another person I spoke to said that on the GSi engine there is a fault where the Oil Filter gets blocked & this stops oil getting to the Cam bearings etc etc & this causes the tapping!
Any one who can help please do!!
HELP!!

Surely if ya got a 95M-reg GSI it should have a X16XE engine not the C16XE

the change over was in 94, i got one of the last C16XE GSI's alfar as i know, they stopped making the GSI in 95, with the X16XE, so i would have thought he had a metal inlet?, any way i found the rattle to be the exhaust down pipe heat shield, i had the rattel with mantzel power box, it went away when i fitted the Lexmaul stainless 4-2-1 exhaust manifold

i removed my downpipe heatshield about 2 years ago. I was fed up with it rattling and any 'fix' only lasted a few weeks before it started rattling again.

I borrowed a big pair of snips designed for cutting metal and just cut along the length of it.
