went to get my tracking done after lowering 40mm and putting on 17s, apparently its fine , then the guy started advising me about my car, got on from -40mm fk springs and gmax shocks, he said its way to stif, and coz u got low profile tyres has no give, i mean yeah its a choppy ride ect i dont care, but he said after 2 months or so the bodywork of the car will start to crack, and i shouldnt have used shocks aswell, i should have used std shocks and just lowering springs lol, but the back was fine he said, which is gmax springs and shocks, also the springs o nthe back have done a good bit of milage, well over 1000 i think so they are brokein, although the shocks aint , they are new, iaybe just coz the fornt springs are new and really stiff, i mean if u hit a bump the front end lifts up off the ground lol, but after driving around a bit today u can push down and bounce it on the wing slightly, eh said he couldnt, although i was doing it with my std wheels back on and soft big tyres, didnt even feel bumps with them things on, i drove around with my 117s and not spiggots for a while, un safe so had to stick others on, got some seriouse shuddering and lack of control with 17s, but 1 of the shops i phoned to see if they stocked MAS stuff said thats because theres no spiggots dont see why it would be like that, but the balancing of wheels and track (apparently) is fine... will be travelling to a performance garage next time... ,
even though i did today and he said the garage that fitted my shocks has done it wrong and thats why its stiff, he said they cant just stick them on they havent modded them, they havent chopped some rubbers, whats that all about??? but after he realised i had no spiggots on yet he wasnt botherd about that he was more concerned of the wheel fallng off
any help is appriciated!

It would probably crack if the shocks were bolted on to body work. But they aren't, they are bolted to the turrets and various chassis parts

I doubt it, cos quite a few of the better spring kits have got, either TUV or E markings on them, menaing that they are pretty safe to use, anything that could cause damage like that would not be safe and not get those markings on them. You never know though...

I had mine down 60mm on 15's...
very hard ride, had suspension set to hardest setting mind! When it went for its MOT, only problem was the tracking was slightly out, but they did say the camber was a bit excessive but shouldn't be too much of a problem.
If he's saying about cutting down rubber mounts (i'd guess ARB mounting rubbers or bump-stops), then he's a fool. TBH with what I read up there, I wouldn't go back to the garage, I'd go elsewhere!

so basically u buy the shocks and they just go on the same as your std shocks were, no modding needed to fit them ? like this guy says(prolly just wanting me to pay him cash)

Shocks that are normally absorbed by the suspension and tyres will need to be transferred somewhere - obviously through the car and yourself.

they only rust because they crack.
they also crack regardless of suspension set up.
