Reet, i was in teh car park at work parked behind a ford galaxy. The driver got in the galaxy and then reversed into my bumper with his towbar causing damage. He said we didnt need to go through insurers and that he would pay, well i got a quote for the damage which was £125 emailed him a copy of the invoice and he`s saying thats too much. He reckons that we are not covered by insurance because we were on private land? pls tell me hes not right, It was in the car park at work which is County Hall in norfolk, in the visitors car park.

He's talking bollox. Ring him and tell him it costs that amount. If he is being an asre, ask you go through the insurance, at the end of the day, going private is for the other driver's benefit and not yours.

depends mate, im sure its 50/50 on PRIVATE land is it not?
also if the car park can be used to get from one road to another (has an entrance and exit) is it not coverd under public highways agency?
should always make a note with police/insurance company when these things happen for legal reasons and proof, otherwise u aint got a leg to stand on if he fucks u off, even if u dont make a claim with insurance company in end

ive just put a claim in and emailed him for his insurance details, if it all goes t1ts up and ends up costing me then im not too worried as i was going to get the front bumper resprayed due to stone chips at some point this year.
I think he should have taken the option to pay £125 to bodyshop, too late for that now motherfcuk insurance time

Regardless of it being covered by insurance, he is still liable for damage to a car. You can't just hit stuff and say you're not insured therefore it doesn't matter.

supermarket car parks are covered by the road traffic act. I would ask at your local police station

at my mates work, its a private car park. if there was damage done by another person to your car, he could just tell you to sod off apparently. although he is liable to the damges, there isn't much you can do... thats the rule thingy at that car park anyway
obviously might not be the case for others.

If I hit a car with a hammer on private land, its criminal damage. You can't just damage other peoples property!

Even if you're both not covered by insurance surely you could sue him for criminal damage? I'd get a few more quotes and see if he changes his tune.

sometimes there is signs up saying that cars are parked at owners risk and we will not be liable for any damage
