Just recently had a x16xe fitted in my car, only done 30k odd miles..runs fine and is pretty nippy actually... But the valve stem seals or piston rings have gone.. Do I
1) Get the head off and fix and new gaskets and stuff
2) Leave it and get 20xe fitted in september
or...
3) Spend the 1.5k on getting my engine rebuilt and fitting inlet manifold etc and / or NOS
Opinions please
I think i may sway towards number 3 due to the fact it is a newish engine and theres no guarentee the 20xe wont go the same way specially with them being high mileage...

buy a haynes manual and do some reading on simple mechanics, and change the valve stem seals yourself. it will save you buckets.
i dont think theres any need to rebuild the engine just cos the valve stem seals have gone???
unless the rings are shot too?
rebuild yourself and save the 2litre money for your next car

as dangerous dave said, re-build it ya self, i bet ya could do it for around £350, and thats re-placing almost every pump, seal, gasket etc, i have had my engine stripped down to an empty block, its not so hard, i was amazed at how simple and engine actually is when i first did it

yeah, its daunting, but its the best way to learn. if you break something, you'll know not to do it again.
.lol
if you have the tools, space and dont mind getting greased up, then go for it
