Yes you do need to lacquer that colour. The only tips i could give you is that make sure the base colour (ultra blue) is nice and smooth without any dust before you apply lacquer, rub the ultra blue down with some 1200 grade wet and dry to get rid of any bad areas. Then put on a fair amount of lacquer (2 or 3 coats) and when its dry use an abrasive polish to flatten it down

Wooooow!!!.
You cant just lacquer over your basecoat if you've de-nibbed it as the lacquer wont hide the scratches. If you do decide to de-nib the basecoat withan abraisive, then you will have to apply more paint to cover the scratches before you clear coat it. The only thing you can do is use a tack cloth.
This is why bodyshops use high power / high spec spraybooths ovens, the high voloume of air changes make the finish on the basecoat almost dirt/contaminent free and perfect for lacquer.
But you most certainly cant just lacquer over a 1200grit scratch pattern.

I did on my mirrors.
I sprayed em sigma blue, then wet 1200 them down, then laquered. They look unbelievably good, and that was done with cans
Thats wot i've always been told to do.

Its just not the done thing as u can see the scratches under the lacquer.
Any one thats a decent panel beater or apinter will tell you this...
Some places choose to flatten the lacquer after its cured then apply another coat. But the only way you can de-nib a basecoat with abraisive is to then repaint the over all the area thats been flattened... FACT.

Well thats true mate, we all have our own ways and metthods. Ive tried it before myself with 2000grit which is obviously much less course and i wasnt impressed with the finish... i could still see the marks under the lacquer... but maybe its me just being a fussy git

i spray the basecoat, then spray lquer straight over the finnish out the gun for the basecoat.
one thin coat of laquer, then a fairly thick one.
people make the mistake of putting lots of thin coats of laquer on, from my experience doing one thin then one thick gives a much better finnish and deep shine than lots of thin ones.
you can get 2k paint from any autop paint suppliers, look in yellow pages for a local one. or go too a body shop and try get buy some from them from their paint scheme
