The bad news: took her for a spin this evening and when I filled up with petrol, I could smell fumes inside the cabin. On the way home I stopped again 15 miles later and the smell was becoming overpowering. Lifted the bonnet and checked for fuel leaks, but couldnt see anything. Took the last 5 miles v gently and by the time I rolled into my street, the smell was terrible. Stopped and noticed a faint smoke coming from under the bonnet

Grabbed fire extinguisher

The good news: Lifted bonnet, but luckily was it just fumes and no flames. Sprayed some water over the block to remove some heat and waited nervously. No fire. Obviously a split fuel hose or faulty fuel line junction somewhere. Will get it on the ramps tomorrow. I think I got off lightly

possibly, but in the situation, i would rather take a chance than see it burst into flames

longer air horns, alu box round the air intakes, rewired engine bay, dials and gauges moved into my main dash pod. looks good if i say so myself...

Update - no need to get it on the ramps. Turned over the engine and lifted bonnet and saw fuel pissing out of the fuel rail at the junction of the fuel pressure sensor. The connecting nut had snapped with vibration. Need a new T-adaptor and to devise a way of mounting the sensor that takes the stress off the junction
