ok, car failed mot on "lack of effort on rear right hand service brake" and rear service brakes out of balance", lookin at it one drum looks newish and the other looks prehistoric, is this the problem... not leakin fluid or nething

This may be the problem although how they look doesn't necessarily affect how they perform!
They don't strip anything down so they certainly will not have had opportunity to look at how much meat is left on the shoes. My advice would be to find this out first.
You may need to replace the older drum if the drum casing is more worn but you might just move the problem - you'd be safer with a pair of whatever you're changing.

yeah... got shoes already, course of habbit, sunday afternoon taken care of... it kinda looks like sum1 had definately done one side, just a fine coat of surface rust on the the none weak side, and not the other... quite heavy corrosion on the weaker side, hardly noticable when drivin anyway, unless ure in the habit of lettin go the steerin wheel
