it sounds like ur lasers been knocked out of sink in the unit which can only be repaired by an audio specialist!
Yellow pages time methinks!

Ok...the first 2 years it was perfect played everything fine...then during last year noticed it tended to skip or say error while using "cheap brand" CD-R/W's but now even when i use Sony or TDK disks it still skips AND it just freezes and says **"ERROR" on some of the later tracks on the cd or when the head unit is pretty hot, but it plays normal "original" cds fine....
**acording to the manual ERROR means a mechanical fault???
so i used HMVs "lens cleaner cd" and now it dont play CD-R/W's at all? but still plays original cds fine
if the "laser was knocked out of sink" would it still play normal cds though?

Take it apart and clean the lens with cotton wool.
If its meant to play CD-RW discs but doesn't it probably just dirty.

i use imation jobbies... usually on special offer from morrisons, tdk and sony aint worth the cash.... last time i bought tdk i took the rest back utter rubbish. Imation were 10 quid for 30 last time i bought some, not too familiar with ure head unit but they work fine in my jvc both standard audio and mp3. Try a "cheap" disc b4 u rip your head unit in bits mate

how'd u work it out that TDK's are shite ?!?!?...there one of the best brands out there, both CDRWs, CD-Rs and CD-Audios....ive never had a single problem with TDKs and there soooo good that the music studio (where im at) uses them to send demos and pre-releases etc
But back to topic, mine is starting to do this, usually when the player gets hot etc and yes its on the last few tracks....but this in on a pioneer 77MP which is only about 8 months old
But it sounds like the lens has gone out of sync (like someone said), so pop it into your local ICE specialist Although, it might be worth taking it apart and cleaning it with some cotton buds and meths (or something similar)

aye, but its usually down to your burner if thats the case...although, i personally use a mixture of TDKs and other less brans at home and i dont have a problem although, like ya said might be worth trying different brand and see if that works....but i still think the lens is sodded or dirty as fook..

yeah i noticed all these problems since ive had NERO 6 ultra edition!!!
BUT...my CD-R/Ws work in my mates cars so it could just be coincidence
i ive been using the same TDK brand for over a year and had no problems untill last few months?
so it must just be my head unit, has a weak/worn laser or somthing?

If its still under some kind of warranty?? then dont take it apart.
there are so many fiddley bits to put back, might not be worth the hassle :S

aha i may know why!!!
Apparently the older CD players/headunits supported CDR's but would eventually stop reading copied CD's this was because the laser had to work 10x harder to get the right line to play the music or something (i know this may sound bollocks but this was often the case with certain older units)
After a while of playin copied cd's the laser wud eventually wear out and only play CD's that were originals.
Obviously newer headunits dont suffer from this as they specifically say that they support CDR's but many older units didnt!

Also depends on wether it is DESIGNED to play CDR's or wether that was just an added bonus
If it was built and designed to play CDR's then use the warranty! They always come in handy, might a get a newer model!

it can be the quality of the cd's.
Some cd's have a certain temprature tolerance. Casue car head units get hot some cd's are just plain shite. try some differnt makes. Some cd's tell you the operating temp range on the back.

ive used the same CD-R/W's for ages and they have been fine untill now....
hmmm jus checked the manual and box and it DONT say that it does play CD-R/W's anywere(im sure i saw it say somwere that it does play CD-Rs)...oh well so maybe it wasnt meant to play them

so it is probly my laser/lens that is worn out? would it be covered under warranty? or how much roughly to replace it then?
