Rally cars are all about acceleration, so a track with long straights and sweeping corners means that they wont be that quick compaired to others. They should have stated the ratio's for a fair comparison as it "could" be that the Impreza has more acceleration than top speed than the Evo.

why state the ratios they are production cars. they are designed and produced. gear ratios don't come into it.

Well they actually do. For example one Nova/Corsa may have an F13 box and another might have an F15 box but both have the same engine and are both production models. One is faster than the other around a sweeping track because of the longer gear ratios, but the other is faster on country roads because of its shorter gear ratios.

Surely someone of your astounding knowledge would know this!?

My point was that perhaps Subaru put a closer ratio in their Impreza's box to give the owner more fun on back roads than on the motorway, so on the test track it appeared to be the slower car.

I know changing the ratios would change the acceleration of the car you fool thats not my point. they don't you can't say well his car is faster cause it has different ratios. his car is faster full stop. these cars are not rally cars where gear ratios matter on each rallye. they are production road cars you buy what you see. if the scooby is slower thats it.
