I would but I already have the standard brake version. Its a good all rounder bike (not excellent at anything but fairly good at most things!)

How much are discs and are they much better, it brakes pretty good as it is.

It needs a some TLC the chromedbrake cable ends have rusted and the top of the shocks need some scotch brite or something

Just got back into Mountain Biking recently and have really lost touch with whats good and whats not got a Cannondale F400 off a lad, who really didn't have a fucking clue, dirt cheap but I'm not impressed & I'm after something new.

Any Advice would be much appricated and I'd be willing to spend up to about £500-600 for something decent. Any Ideas? I mainly ride cross country.

Funny you should mention that, I've looking at the Specializied Hardrock Sport Pro which is £499 which I've been told is a cracking allround bike for the money. Here it is, Comments?

Go for the Merlin frame.

Had a play on a Hardrock Comp this morning, didn't seem that great.

Mine is the 2002 model, and TBH i know feck all about bikes, i got it cos i trusted the shop and he didnt try and sell me the most expensive.

Its a good bike, I dont know HOW light it is in relation to others but its an easy one arm lift

Shimano gears on it are great

The only thing i dont like is i use it a lot for cycling to work, and it can be an effort in the wind with its big frame and wide tyres.

you can always change the wheels mind

Really like the look of that Merlin Malt 1. Are there any of those components that would be really worth while upgrading? and what are riser bars?

Don't need to really touch anything on the Malt range. You could replace every bit of it with lighter and more expensive components, but it's a good package out of the box.
