First you will need a headunit - then either a subwoofer and amp or 6*9's and possible amped (not both 6*9's and sub!) Then up front a nice set of components either seperatley amped or running straight of the nternal amo in the headunit

get some nice components (front speakers that come in 2 parts - woofer and tweeter), and a nice 12" sub. Then get a 4 channel amp to power them both...
oh and dont forget your headunit!
6*9s are a waste of money

i'd recommend the components i have (alpine 1757s) cause they sound nice and unlike most you shouldn't have a problem fitting them in the narrow gaps in the doors:

as far as amps go, i got this one (IN PHASE IPA1204) and it works a dream powering my sub and the above components:

and my sub (DB AUDIO Raptor 12 MK2):

i also have 6*9s running of my head unit but they make no difference if they're off or on, so unless u wanna buy another amp you're wasting your money on these.
oh, and get a mp3 compatible headunit cause they r the dogs. Its so chilled not needing to constantly change CD. I've got this one (sony cdx-f7500) and even though its Sony i couldn't recommend it more highly:

hope that helps,
J
