Had a power cut here today, had to go out during it and got me thinking... Do speed cameras stop working during a blackout or do they have a backup to catch people anyway?
Answers on a postcard please.
or in this thread will do fine too

I was wondering earlier how speed cameras work. They take photos obviously but are these diigtal which are sent down a phone line or something Or are they standard photos onto film which has to be removed from the camera physically?

I have a feeling it has to be film to be submissible in court? Maybe the rules have changed now but I swear that used to be the case...

If you get done speeding then you get a ticket through the post within 2 weeks don't you. So surely that means that someone goes to the gatso about once a week to remove the film?

right well i drive past this one in cardiff all the time for the last year or so and i've never once seen any sign of workers by the camera. I'm guessing it doesn;'t have a film in it.

I thought they were digital so people that got caught couldnt go back to the camera and mess it up. I've also never seen a person empty the one near me, saying that i've never seen it go off. Could well be empty.
