Just purchased an Alpine 9812 CD/MP3 player and was told by a few people that it would be better to wire it to the battery just in case the original Vaux stereo loom can't handle it. Is this the case?
I looked at a few threads from the past and people seem to have mixed opinions on this.
If so then is it worth my upgrading the battery as well?
I have a 1.2 SXI Corsa C
Thanks for the help

it depends on if u will be using the IC amp.
If like me u amp all your speakers with seperate amplifiers and turn the onboard IC off, then the standard loom will not be a problem.
If you are going to use the IC amp to power your speakers then i would wire it direct to the battery.
And no u wont need to uprate your battery to run the hu.

for the time being I'll be running only the two front comps off of the head unit as i have to wait till next month to get an amp. Would this still be ok using the normal loom?

I should imagine so.
I ran 2 front speakers off an alpine HU using the IC amp with the original loom and didnt have any problems.

saying this, I ran 2 x 6x9s and 2 x 3-way speakers off a crappy Kenwood H/U in my old 1.4 LS.
This should be up to the job.
One other question, i very rarely have passengers in the back and it's usually only me and the missus in the car. If i was to disable the rear speakers would the sound still be ok coming from just the front comps? what would the bass be like?
cheers

its not due to wat your powering, its due to the (supposed) current draw of the hu.
Supposibly it can draw like 24 amps or something stupid... if it did it would melt the loom, thus y u r supposed to run that yellow wire to the battery.
However the hu never draws even near that, so its not really needed, its just an extra safety measure.
Saying that, if u can wire it to the battery do.

and for your secopnd q, fuck the passengers lol
A set of comps and a sub and it will souind good.
If you are not having a sub, u will need a decent (Expensive) set of bassy comps and a powerful amplifier for them.
My next comps will be focal KF's , they r rated at 80w rms a channel, i shall be giving them 200w rms a channel...

nice. I wasnt actually planning on getting a sub due to space and weight concerns, i know that this limits my options but i think if i can get a comp in each door and have them all amped then it'll sound good.
Are comps bassy then? I've never actually listened to one.
"fcuk the passengers"... i did once...

most are not m8, u will need to spend a good wedge to get bassy comps, such as Focal Polykevlars, JL XR's etc... all of which are £300+, and they WILL need a lot of juice from a good amp.
Cheper to get a sb aswell ... even if its only a small one like 8".
