Right, just been looking up my car on the Vauxhall website..
It weighs 1270kg (which was suprisingly low). How much work would it take do you think to cut that weight down to the 1000kg mark?
I can't see it being possible, but seem to remember some people claiming to have corsa's that weigh in the region of 700 and something kg which is a 200kg reduction.
I was thinking complete interior strip down, new dash made up, fibreglass wings and bonnet, possibly boot lid, perpex windows, lightweight wheels, suspension, seats, flywheel etc.. and then finish it off with a custom carbon fibre roof panel, BMW M3 CSL style!

Was actually thinking about doing it.
Am pissed off how much the value of the car has gone down since I bought the car so refuse to sell it now. Because it is stupidly expensive to run on the road, I was thinking of making this into my fun car, selling the leather interior and buying a cheaper runaround for the family.
Just imagining a fully stripped, 300bhp Astra Coupé Turbo.

Surely cutting out the floorplan and drilling holes in the shell would make the car pretty dangerous if it was involved in a smack.
Would weaken it a fair bit.

pat - the car has a rollcage throughout the car....
welded through the bulkheads etc etc.... cross bars etc.
all main structural panels, supports etc will remain unmolested!

Depends how deep your pockets are as there will be no off the shelf parts.
First 50 odd kg's wont be too hard, after that it will get very hard!
I'd never do it to a car of that age/value tbh, doing it to a 300bhp Calibra Turbo would be much better! Cheap to buy, money in the leather, 4x4, loads of stuff to ditch for weight saving....
