Am thinking of selling car soon to get a 1.6 sport
Car is standard, 1.0 12v Limited edtion sting
Has spolier, alloys, slight tints, rev counter, sunroof, R reg, only 26,000, i am thinking about £2000 private maybe a tiny bit more with ICE, or £1000-£1500 trade in. Is this to expensive, or about right?
Also do garages accept trade-ins against all cars they sell, or only certian ones, as some websites have PX to clear sections?

parkers are saying between £1100 and £2000 for private and £1500 for trade, but thats with 70,000 miles so i should easily get £1500 trade? as i only have 26,000 miles, also just had new timing belt and exhaust gasket.
How much do garages check the car when taking PX?

Most places will not take anything over 5 years old. I was gonna get a Paxo and they offered me £1,200 for my 106

that is a pain in the arse if i need to sell it privately, was hoping to just dump it on a garage and save me all the effort of advertising.
Liverpool is a hefty drive for me
bout 3 weeks till i can afford to buy a 1.6 so might advertise it in local paper in 2 weeks time to see what happens.

I have plans at the mo. It would be a nice project car for me but work would not start for another year so would need to find somewhere to store it.
Let me know anyway

car won't be for sale now
Was called to go down to the garage today, half expecting it to be nearly ready to be picked up, (having the timing chain and gasket fitted + MOT done). when i get there the top of engine is off The middle cylinder has started to break up around the piston ring, and has been hitting the engine block. Have been told that it is now going to need a new engine, like vauxhall originally predicted.
Will it now be harder to sell as well, as the engine number won't match the log book so it could make potentionial buyers suspisus and put them off.
Costs are going to be
£300-£400 for work all ready carried out on gasket, chain + MOT
£200-£300 for 2nd hand engine
£400 for engine to be fitted.
Looking at total cost of over £1k, i was expecting a bill of about £300
but still half the cost vaux were going to charge me, they were saying £2k for a new engine.

Have you already started this work? You may have done better selling it as a non-runner for someone else to spend a grand on. That sort of money for a 1 litre isn't a great investment?
I'd also be asking whoever did the recent work why they didn't spot this any ran you up a bill for things you possibly didn't need?

i have already had £400 done on the car, but the engine is in bits so it would need to be reassembled before i could even sell it. It will still drive, but sound shite, and be even slower than other 12v's.
If i spend a grand repairing it, then sell it for £2k i am still 1K better of, doubt i could sell it for 1K in its current condition.
If i get it repaired, use it for a couple of months then sell, i will be able to get the good old 1.6, and be closer to getting the 2nd years NCB

don't think he took the top of the engine off when doing the original work. It wasn't untill afterwards that it still sounded shite so futher invetigation was needed. By which time he had already fit the parts and spent the time (labour) on fitting them.

Thats if you get 2k for it and the bill only comes to 1k.
I've no idea what its worth as is. Might be worth hanging on to see if someone wants it for a conversion though.

getting 2k shouldn't be a problem as there are others in auto trader for 2.5K, only prob is if the next engine has high millage.
If someone is willing to give me 1K for it though, by 2moro morning you can have it for a conversion Will need a trailor to collect, or you will have to reassamble the engine then drive it back.

insurance company + engine converison + parents = no go area
I am guessing the 12v engines are fairly easy to break then. Mines only done 26K I would say it was treated nicely, but that would be a lie
