Isnt the 'point of no return' senario when lights are changing from green to amber and not from amber to red. There is a slight delay between those to, I suppose, give you that option between green and amber.
When lights are changing from amber to red on your side, they generally change from red to red amber on the other side.
If the delay and distance is short between the two sides, then someone approaching the lights doing say 30mph sees them change to amber and carrys on.
Its at this point someone going through on amber to red can cause an accident.
Does that make sense
Yeah, I think so

There's no question that its dangerous in particular circumstances, the question is whether the best course of action was enforcement or a simple warning.

I would have thought warning as with a clean record for over 5 years I have shown I am normally a safe and competent driver...I am somewhat biased though...

i think its a tad harsh. with 5yrs and no problems sport16v must be a good/safe driver. points and fines should be down to the individual situation... you get the same amount of points for accidently going through a red light at a slow pace as you do as if you were ragging your car around at 45-50mph in a 30mph zone.
i think this is wrong

Personally i think your a bit of a dick for having the opinions that you have, and not respecting anyone else's.
If you think it is unfair the you go and appeal but i doubt very much that it will be withdrawn.
I have expressed my opinion, now respect it.
I just hope you carry on and get your ass banned! Will make the roads abit safer
i hope you get banned too. if u can drive that is. u dont know how much it can spoil sum1s life until it happens to u. sayin stuff like that is not nice. hasnt happened to me but i can understand what it wud feel like.
just coz u sed it to him, i hope somethin bad happens to u now. im being a dickhead i know, n i dont care. just dont b too cocky. somethins bound to happen to u 1 day....

I've shot through enough amber lights in my time so I'm not getting on my high horse about this but amber does not mean go if safe. Amber means stop, the only light you can go on is green. Its in the highway code.
Shite luck for getting caught though mate, seems harsh to punish you for the next 5 years on your insurance for that!
