I had my 1.4 since i was 18. Good enginesize/insurance balance. Its not fast no, but its by no means as slow as a 1.2 8v 
Waited till i was 21, now i have my 2ltr turbo going in this month 
So my advice would be wait, mod the rest of the car untill then

id be happy with £1200 like as i payed just under that + its just passed its mot with flying colours so id take that price and then upgrade to the 1.4 16v

On the 1.4 was £1400 FC @ 18 1 yrs ncb.
Insurance is up for renewal beggining of sept when new block goes in.
Will be around £1500
