Just finished wiring up the amp I got given (so I don't know it works for defo)
Power light comes on the amp when the stereo is turned on, but no sound is coming through to the speakers.
If I stick a bit of wire in the RCA input on the amp then I get a crackling sound, so the amp appears to be ok.
Any ideas why nothing coming from the stereo?
The stereo speaker still chuck out sound.
I have a Sony CDXMP40 - does it need to have any settings changed to start using the amp pre out???

Check all your leads/connections are in properly and the right way round. check the gain on the amp and make sure you have plugged you rca's into the right input and check if the rca leads work

no on the amp - just checked the circuit board and found a blown resistor and some fried bits on the metalic path bit on the board.
Have to see if Maplins can save the day!

Anyone have any experience in fixing printed circuit boards???

fixing tracks is quite a twat to sort out mate, its a case of soldering wires everywhere usually to repair it.
Its impossible if its a layered PCB. What amp was it?
Damage like that is usually caused by a speaker terminal short.
