i have a 1.2 8b corsa b, 1994 L, had a 5 speed gearbox which fucked up,

the garage just charged 200 to go get an old gearbox from scrappies and fit it, and it now turns out the gearbox they put in is 4 SPEED! is that safe? they are saying its my fault for not teling them ts 5 speed and the gearknob doesnt say! they are saying to change it i need to pay fitting again!!, does any 1.2 8b corsas have 4 speed?

the gearbox they took out said it was the F13 and the new 1 also says F13 :\ is this right? 4 speed f13

My 1.2 8v is a 4 speed, though I would get my soliciter to write them a kind letter telling them that it would be of best interest to fit the correct gearbox to the car if they are going to be cocks.

They must be stupid. They should have checked it was 5 speed first and got the right one from the scrappies.

You cant tell on the box what it is, but 4 speeds are F10, and i think you can get 5 speed F10. Although all F13 boxes are five speed.

Ive seen a lot of corsas on L reg with 4 speed tho so its not a problem to have it.

ok driving about tonight, it actually feels ok, doesnt sem like its struggling at 70 in 4th as it did with 5 speed, and feels a little faster aswell, but the guy said that gearbox is deff F13, and has that marked on it, so im guessing theres no way its 4 speed and its not aligned right?

ok, you had an F10 gearbox originally, not F13. Many corsas that first rolled out in 1994 were fitted with F10 4 speeds lifted straight from the Nova. The F10 5 speed was fitted to all 1.2 8v's that werent the Merit model. The F10 5 speed is identical to the 4 speed in ratios apart from the new 5th gear. It is an overdrive gear and maximum speed is attained in 4th rather than 5th because the 1.2 8v is unable to pull the car any faster in 5th gear. Dont worry about blowing up, the 1.2 is solid as a rock. only 4 speed box for corsas was the F10.

I'd get a solicator to write a letter, wait a week then phone them up saying you are taking legal action.

Should have a 5 speed in 2 weeks free
