the slits only take air in for the heater vents so if you block them then very little air will get into the car from vents i think
|

the vents are for ya wind screen, when ya drive in cold morning the hot air from the engine is pushed up throught the vents and stops them misting up.
so if you do smoothe over leave a few vents.
