it's possible, but very tight for space.
Adam_B did it last week.
apparently theres only a few mil of space on each side of it for you to play with.

dont need to remove driveshafts, its fairly easy in theory.
Remove all the wires from the back and undo the big bolt that goes thru the alternator, you will have to do it from underneath the car.
then remove the air filter and air flow meter. I had to unplug the loom over the injectors as well to get to the bolt that holds the top bracket onto the cylinder head. Undo this and the bolt that goes thru the alt.
You should just have enough room to pull the alternator up and out now

easyiest way is to undo the bolts holding it on and drop it down under the car.
I done this my getting under the car, that way you dont have to take anythign out

how? theres no room down there at all on mine, i was struggling to get my hand to the bottom bolt

got it done had to take it out from the top also added a wire going from the b+ to the battery so the fault never starts again (battery light half on when running and not the earth )
