if i went and bought a 2L vaux to go in me corsa, (dont know nowt about engine modification) wat could i do to it with say 500 squid, just mods to the engine!
or if worth it spend 750-1000
apart from wings it would be nice if it flew

bout £1500 for your conversion
then get engine management, cams & vernier pulleys
& a decent exhaust system

manifold and exhaust....
Cams, verniers and ECU remap will be 1k+

get a set of second hand Carbs off EBay or Mig for about £500 and will take you to about 180bhp

If you were putting a 2 litre in, I'd keep 500 quid for the bits you haven't though of when you're converting it!

But you wouldn't want to put a tired engine in would you? Best spend the £500 on rebuilding it, then have it sitting on a pallet in your mates Nan's garage for a few months...

Technically it's the best 500 spent on the 'box
But no point having a sweet as a nut gearbox if the engine's on it's way out.
Get the gearbox inspected to make sure it's happy enough, then rebuild the XE.
