you can fit 17cm speakers in your door as long as you get the Autoleads adapters from Halfords (£12).
I'd look at the Focal Access range for that kinda money. Excellent speakers.

Or just build your own mdf rings to fit the speakers, meaning you'd have more clearance from the window, along with having a more sturdy mounting base for the speaker, meaning it'd sound much better than if it was sat on a shitty thin piece of rattly plastic.
Would be cheaper too

Haven't heard anyone moan about the adapters effecting the sound quality in comparison to the MDF route ?

Well think about it, mounting a speaker on a thin and rattly bit of plastic, or screwing it into an 18mm thick piece of mdf which is correctly and firmly secured to the door.
Makes sense really.

Those adaptors are fine, i used a set for ages, there sturdy and dont rattle and a lot of people cant bebothered to go cutting up mdf when a ready made option is there.

im not lazy with my ice, i have spent and am gopiong to spend more hours than i can remember doing ice bits.
Personally i dont mind making mdf anything, but i know some people wont and as such the plastic rings really are fine.

I'm still going for the 2 small 6" JL's in the rear cards and the focal comps up front.
Looking at an Audison amp as well.

never had any problems with the plastic adaptors, although i wack some door foam sticky seal strip stuff around the plastic adaptors (on the bottom and around the ring that screws into the main adaptor body) just to make sure, and they are pretty sturdy only thing that rattles is the cds and crap that i carry in my door pockets

i dont think you will find anyone that has something bad to say about the autoleads speaker rings. If they are screwed tight to the door, there is nothing to rattle

if you haven't got any yet, go to the car accesories shop in tonbridge by the station and speak to sean (used to own aas by the shell garage), he'll do you some speakers for a good price. (you're from tonbridge if I remember correctly)
