i mean loud! on my way home to night ,it just started, really bad, pulled over h ad a look, was defo the engine not something catching a belt,
turned car on/off still done it, then i reved a little and seen smoke/steam coming from down the manifod way and the endine, i mean a good bit of it, so i switche dit off for 15min and let it cool, now its running and sounding ok

check it for oil, it may be the bottom end knockin

oil is fine.
thing is when i turned it off for like 15min it was fine

someone on another site suggested ive lost a stud from the manifold? although i cant see why that would cause that noise, then stop making the noise when the cars cooled

i had a noise the other week and thought it was engine buggered, dipped the clutch and let it back up and it went away

really loud?, sunded as if something was caught in a fan, like if u stick a piece of plastic in a fan and it started ticking like fuck, then faster you accelerate the faster it ticks,
ill drive the car the now and see if it starts up again

yeah , like loud ticking i think, it was dark so i didint get a god look, there w asnt any steam at 1st then when i swtched car off the back on quick i noticed some coming from down at the manifold whe i puled my oil dipstick out, but it may have just been coming from my hot air feed hole as th epipes removed for ind kit, not sure it was dark couldnt tell...

i was trying to use my sidelight as a light and the bulb fell out and smashed inside lol, ill need to remember and rpelace it the night

3cm yours is probably your release bearing for the clutch, does it go away when u put the clutch down yea?

i have that whirring noise too, which is the release, but this happens at random times, after i pull up, then switch engine off and back on, sometimes it makes the noise, sounds like bottom end, like a heavy knocking.
probably just becoming more buggered.
doesn't bother me tho, i'll just get a better one when it breaks

i can hear my lifters or bottom end knocking when i 1st start the cra and its cold for about 30 sec, not as loud as they were going last night, but just a little till the car heats up then it goes away

My Valver taps like jo fcuk when its cold, does it for about 10mins on normal tick over, its the tappets.........they are buggered! It sounds sweet as when the oil has warmed........

ive got new lifters in my valver ticks for 1-2 secs at the most then its bliss!

Mine was doin this and it was the oil. the dip stick said it was full the day before, didnt know wtf was so took it somewere and he said theres no oil in it lol
Still does it for a few seconds on a cold start in the mornin

i had the same problem with my 1.4 16v. was the water pump. also changed timing belt and tensioner/rollers at the same time. all this set me back £220
